About Me
Dr. Masato Amano – My Journey
Introduction
Hello and welcome to Inner Insight Lab. I’m Dr. Masato Amano, a dentist based in Tokyo, Japan, with a lifelong passion for both modern science and Eastern wisdom.
This site brings together meditation techniques, self-healing practices, and life lessons I’ve cultivated over decades of research and personal experience.

My Story: From Illness to Inner Insight
I was born and raised in Osaka, Japan. As a child, I was shy and sensitive, always seeking comfort in books and drawn to mysteries and spiritual teachings. My true journey into meditation began at university, when a sudden and severe illness—kidney disease—turned my life upside down. I was hospitalized for three months and told that I might need dialysis, with little hope for a cure through conventional medicine.
Confined to my hospital bed, I began searching for answers beyond Western medicine. I explored books on Eastern philosophy, traditional medicine, and the ancient practice of “Qi”—the vital energy said to flow through the body. Though I had no experience with these methods, I devoted myself to breathing exercises and visualizations described in those books, focusing my awareness on healing energy in my body.
Over time, I began to feel subtle warmth and vitality, and gradually, my condition improved. After three months, I was able to leave the hospital and return to daily life, convinced that these self-healing practices had played a key role in my recovery.

Expanding My Practice: Teachers, Tradition, and Innovation
Driven by curiosity, I joined a small group of Qigong and Nei Kung practitioners—an uncommon pursuit in Japan in the 1980s. Under the guidance of an expert teacher, I learned not only techniques of breath and movement, but also how to use intention and awareness for self-healing. Later, I continued my journey alone, exploring new methods and adapting traditional practices to suit my own needs.
Still, my illness was not completely cured. It was only after studying the Hawaiian practice of Huna—focused on the relationship between the conscious, subconscious, and superconscious mind—that I realized how much hidden stress and emotional baggage can affect our physical health. The insight that many illnesses have roots in the unconscious led me to Buddhist meditation and its core teaching: that suffering is caused by attachment, and that freedom comes from letting go.
Through dedicated meditation and self-reflection, I not only restored my health, but also transformed my mindset, relationships, and overall life direction.
Healing Beyond the Body: Personal and Professional Growth
Meditation did not simply improve my health—it changed the way I approached work, relationships, and life itself. As I continued my career as a dental doctor, I found myself more calm, compassionate, and resilient, even in challenging situations. My experiences convinced me that true healing requires a holistic approach, integrating both scientific evidence and personal insight.
Today, I enjoy robust health, restful sleep, and a balanced life, even into my late fifties. More importantly, I am committed to sharing these lessons so that others can find relief from suffering and unlock their own potential for self-healing.

Why Inner Insight Lab Exists
Mindfulness and holistic wellness have never been more popular—but often, real-world applicability is lacking. My goal is to bridge that gap: to offer Eastern-based meditation and healing practices grounded in evidence and real-life experience.
If you seek practical, evidence-informed methods to enhance both mind and body, I invite you to explore this site, apply what resonates, and walk your own path to deeper well‑being.
Thank you for visiting.
